Stress
and Your Health
“Yeah
the job pays the bills but my health sucks.”
When
you think of stress what do you think of? Probably
it has to do with stressful situations. Did
you know that your diet and eating habits can also be a source of stress on your
body? Your adrenal glands, those
lovely glands we take for grated that give us that adrenaline rush, are meant to
help us fight or flight by pumping oxygen and sugar to the brain and muscles
faster then normal. However we
rarely ever fight or run (I mean literally) in our daily stressful situations
leading to an epidemic of taut muscles and tension in today’s society. Prolonged stress will eventually burn out your adrenal glands
leaving you unable to cope like you used to. This is not the only problem
though, unknown to many, the adrenals also regulate blood sugar in the body.
But when the whole organ is burnt out all it’s functions are reduced
including blood sugar balance leading to symptoms such as fatigue, irritability,
cravings, headaches and sleep problems. A
see-sawing blood sugar level can greatly affect your mood as sugar is needed for
fuel for the brain. So what does
this have to do with what I eat? Eating
the wrong types of foods and at the wrong times can also greatly affect your
blood sugar levels. It is simple to
rebalance it with a proper diet and eating habits.
Also if you are suffering from adrenal burnout, there is no quick fix,
however it is very much possible to restore your adrenals through a proper
nutrient program and some lifestyle changes.
